Hello! I am a PhD Candidate in Economics at the Vancouver School of Economics (University of British Columbia). I am also a consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank.
I am interested in conducting research with clear implications for policymaking. My research interests lie at the intersection of international trade and labor economics, with a focus on understanding how firms respond to policy changes and economic shocks.
Before starting my PhD, I worked as a Research Analyst at Banco de México and as a Research Assistant at Centro de Estudios Espinosa Yglesias. I hold an M.A. in Applied Economics and dual B.A. degrees in Economics and Political Science from ITAM.
As part of my work on trade policy, I've been building a tariff tracker to follow the most recent changes in US tariff rates across industries and countries. Have a look here.
Research
My research focuses on International Trade and Labor Economics. My recent works explore:
- The drivers of robot adoption in developing countries and the impact of technological change and automation on firm behavior and labour markets.
- The strategic responses of firms to changes in rules of origin, particularly in the context of trade agreements like the USMCA
- The economic effects of tariffs, with a focus on the U.S. tariff increases of 2025 and their impact on Latin American economies
- The effects of recent labor reforms in Mexico, driven by USMCA pressures to democratize the union system and suppress company unions
- The cross-border transmission of economic shocks through firm networks, focusing on the role of multinational relationships and intra firm trade
